Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
At the end of the curricular unit “Hygiene and Safety at Work”, student should be able to:
- Understand the general concepts of Safety, Hygiene and Health at Work.
- Know the main legislation.
- Explain the relevance of microbiology for health professionals, particularly in what concern to the control and prevention of diseases.
- Acquire concrete notions of biosecurity in dentistry and in the laboratory of Dental Prosthesis.
- Understand the importance of establishing rules and routines that minimize occupational hazards.
- Relate good professional performance practices with the reduce of the number of microorganisms in the workplace.
- Disseminate implementation strategies of universal precautions.
- Use correctly the personal protective equipment.
- Understand the reasons for maintaining and promoting good standards of hygiene, health and safety in the workplace.
Syllabus:
- Concepts of Hygiene, Health and Safety at Work. Legislation.
- Microbiology and health. Infectious agents.
- The oral cavity as a septic environment.
- Infectious diseases of dentistry interest.
- Importance of the CDC recommendations for the control of infection. Universal precautions.
- The cross-infection and the laboratory / professionals of dental prosthesis.
