Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

The main objective of the curricular unit of Introduction to Dentistry is to promote the student integration in the thematics of Dentistry. Thus, the following skills are proposed to be developed:

  1. History of dentistry: past, present and future perspectives
  2. Understand the functioning of the stomatognathic system and relate its functional aspects to its anatomical structures.
  3. Identify and define the different areas in Dentistry and describe its field of clinical application.
  4. Sensitize the student to the concept of “Therapeutic Setting”
  5. Present a general education in Dentistry sufficient to understand the etiology and prevention of oral diseases and assume a responsible attitude for the promotion of Oral Health.
  6. Be competent to deal with the other members of the dental team in order to establish an adequate communication, in terms of technical terminology and precision of basic concepts.
