Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
At the end of this course the student should be able to acquire basic concepts of biochemist, as well as capacity to relate them in order to understand the functions of cells and the molecular base of human body physiology. Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
1. Be able to describe the structure and differentiate the function of proteins, carbohydrates and lipids, and understand the relationship between structure and function;
2. Be able to describe the properties and the role of enzymes be able to demonstrate an understanding how they allow the regulation of metabolism and also as therapeutic drug targets.
3. Be able to understand the global strategy of cellular metabolism, and the way cell obtains and stores energy from the nutrients and use it in the essential processes to the cell and to the human body
4. Be able to demonstrate an understanding of common techniques used in the study of biochemistry.
