Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
The Sports Nutrition curricular unit intends to give the Nutritional Sciences student the necessary technical and scientific knowledge in order to evaluate, recommend and advise the physical active individual considering his level of practice (leisure, amateur, competitive), the sports activities, goals and the intrinsic features.
Considering this, the present curricular unit promotes the student critical and analytical spirit applied to program contents topics.
Students approved with success will have:
- Acquired exact knowledge concerning the programme contents in human nutrition.
- Analytic, synthesis and integration capacities about this subjects.
- The ability to integrate, associated and intervene in situations and similar contexts.

Lectures:
- PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, EXERCISE AND SPORTS
Basic concepts – physical activity, exercise and sport. The role of exercise in health – evidence on the effect of exercise in chronic disease prevention. WHO recommendations for physical activity in different age stages. - ENERGY AND NUTRITIONAL NEEDS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE PHYSICAL ACTIVE INDIVIDUAL
State of art of energy, macro and micronutriente needs in exercise and physical activity and essential considerations in nutrition planning. - NUTRITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS AND NUTRITIONAL PLANNING FOR DIFERENT SPORTS
Sport characterization and energy metabolism, specific factors considered in nutrition planning. - EVIDENCE ABOUT THE USE OF DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS IN DIFFERENT SPORTS
Endurance, team sports, gym sports, martial arts, speed and power sports . - SPORTS, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND HUMAN HEALTH
Recommendations review about physical exercise practice and an active lifestyle in health.
