Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
The general objective of the CU is to provide basic knowledge of public health and nutrition that will meet the following specific objectives:
- Understand the relationship between public health and nutrition.
- Know the main public health programs in Portugal.
- Identify and develop public health strategies applied to nutrition.
- Identify and develop public health and nutrition programs, applied to population needs and health determinants.

Lectures:
- Introduction to the Curricular Unit.
- Evolution of the concept of Public Health.
- Public Health and Nutrition.
- Nutrition and Public Health for disease prevention.
- Public Health and Nutrition Programs in Portugal.
- Steps for the design and implementation of intervention projects in Public Health and Nutrition.
Theoretical / practical classes:
- Steps for the design and implementation of intervention projects in Public Health and Nutrition: definition of general and specific objectives; definition of the work team; identification of the target population; development of working tools; preparation of the procedures manual; analysis and discussion of results; swot analysis.
