Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
  • The internship aims to provide the student-oriented training for the development of practical activities in various community contexts, articulated with academic training and supervision sessions. The internship seeks to provide the student assessment, intervention, and research skills in specific areas in which psychologists have been developing their professional and scientific activity. During the internship, the student actively participates in the institution’s work, observes, and performs technical, formative activities and others, applying the conceptual and methodological knowledge previously learned during the curricular phase. The internship constitutes an opportunity to learn and develop job specific techniques and procedures. It must also develop the skills of adjustment to new environments, autonomy, problem resolution, critical reasoning, and interpersonal relationship.
Syllabus:
  1. The contents involve the exercise of Forensic Psychology.
  2. The internship includes progressive phases, according to an internship plan.
    1) Integration: adaptation to the institution, establishment of a relationship, study of the institution and respective legal documentation, observation of the professionals’ activities and diligences.
    2) Development: active participation in the institutional activities (assessment and/or case management); contribution of the intern’s formation-based knowledge, making suggestions, as well as proposing new activities. The Internship Seminar develops the expectations regarding the internship; adaptation to the institution and strategies to facilitate team integration; presentation of the internship institution; presentation of the activities and tasks performed and case study analysis; organization and participation in a scientific event.

The intern is supervised by a professional from the institution and a by teacher in group weekly Internship Seminars, at IUEM. In the latter, each intern describes the performed activities and presents specific questions about their performance. The Seminar supervisor stimulates debate and reflections about possible strategies to implement, involving all students in each intern individual reality. In specific classes, each intern orally presents the institution, a literature review about the theoretical theme that supports the developed activities and case studies. Before the end of the year, the Internship Event is held, a meeting in which the interns share their internship experience to the students of the 1st year of the Master's degree and of the Psychology degree. Lastly, the intern elaborates a final Internship Report, with theoretical and practical components, in which the intern describes, frames and reflects about the performed activities.
