Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
This CU aims to provide knowledge about the operation of human body as a whole through the interrelation of different metabolism, result of interdependence between organs and systems. Specifically, it aims to understand the metabolism and functions of vitamins and minerals, the metabolism of macronutrient digestion and absorption processes, the metabolism of lipoproteins and the hormonal body regulation. The competences of this CU consist in the mastery of scientific knowledge related to the metabolism of different processes of the human body and their hormonal regulation.
Syllabus:
- Macro and micronutrients: hydro and liposoluble vitamins and minerals.
- Biochemistry of macronutrients digestion and absorption. Regulation digestive and gastrointestinal hormones.
- Lipoprotein and metabolism.
- Mechanisms of signaling transduction.
- Endocrine system. Hypothalamic-pituitary system as a key element of hormonal regulation. Hormones and hypothalamic factors involved. Pituitary hormones (Peptide groups and glycoprotein derived from pro-opiomelanocortin). Posterior pituitary: ADH and Oxytocin. Thyroid hormones. Cortex and suprarenal medulla. Pancreatic hormones.
